Strategy drivers
For now, the majority of Fortum’s earnings are generated by power and heat production in the Nordic countries, but the region’s growth opportunities through greenfield investments are limited. In electricity distribution and sales, the Nordic countries are a natural market where operations will be developed also in the future. In exploring new growth opportunities in the integrating European market, Fortum can rely on the in-depth power market know-how it has gained in the Nordic countries.
Short-term measures
Fortum’s goal in the short-term is the successful implementation of the existing investment programme in new production capacity. Additionally, the company aims to create more value in its electricity retail sales and distribution businesses. Fortum’s objective is to drive the integration and harmonisation of the Nordic and EU-wide markets. Baltic Rim area market integration also offers opportunities.
Long-term measures
Fortum wants to secure its competitive position in the Nordic market also in the future. Growth will be pursued from the integrating European power market.
