Small hydropower plants in Sweden

Glava
River Byälven
There are 22 plants in the catchment area of the river Byälven. The biggest power plants are Jössefors and Glava, both commissioned in the 1950s. Glava is an underground power plant with a height drop of no less than 97 m.
The catchment area also includes the following smaller power plants: Sundshagsfors, Skillingsfors, Koppom, Skönnerud, Adolfsfors, Charlottenberg, Noreborg, Åmotfors, Treen, Mitandersfors, Sälboda (our oldest power plant, built in 1899), Brättne, Kroppstadfors, Lenungen, Lyred, Brududden, Rexed, Järpforsen, Perserud and Gate.
River Norsälven
In Norsälven's main catchment area in Fryksdalen Fortum wholly owns 12 hydropower plants. The area of the basin is 4,000 km². Kymmen power plant, built in 1987, is the biggest in terms of output. It is a pump-fed power plant, which means water can be pumped back from Lake Rottnen to the storage reservoir in Kymmen and be reused at times of peak electricity demand.
The catchment area also includes the following smaller power plants: Väls, Torsby, Kristinefors, Åsteby, Fensbol, Röbjörke, Bäck, Frykfors and Edsvalla
River Ångermanälven
All of Fortum's part-owned hydropower plants on Ångermanälven are on the tributary Faxälven. The whole catchment area covers an area of 36,000 km², of which Faxälven represents just over 4,000 km². In the area Fortum is part-owner of the three hydropower plants Linnvasselv, Sippmikk and Blåsjön. Sippmikk, commissioned in 1997, is the most recent of the plants.
