Fortum shuts down Loviisa nuclear power plant's Unit 1 due to a faulty control rod motor on Friday 29 November 2013, starting at 9 a.m. The malfunction in the control rod was detected late on Thursday 28 November, and during overnight investigation an electrical disturbance in the control rod motor was found. The rod machinery will be replaced and the unit cooled to cold shutdown for the duration of the work.
The shutdown is estimated to last a few days. During repairs, Loviisa 2 will be in normal production.
The incident did not endanger people, the environment or the power plant.
