Projects in Finland

Fortum has currently a total of five wind power projects under development in Finland, adding up to approximately 220 MW.

If the projects prove to be feasible during the development stage, wind power generation in the first projects could start earliest in 2013.

Kuolavaara-Keulakkopää

Fortum and Metsähallitus are jointly developing a wind power project in Kuolavaara-Keulakkopää, located in the Kittilä and Sodankylä municipalities. A maximum of 20 wind power stations of 2–3 MW each can be built in Kuolavaara-Keulakkopää, their capacity totalling 40–60 MW. They would produce between 100 and 120 GWh of electricity annually.

Joukhaisselkä

Fortum and Metsähallitus are jointly developing a wind power project in Sodankylä in the Joukhaisselkä area where, according to a preliminary plan, a total of 20 or 30 wind power stations of 2–3 MW will be built. The annual output of the wind power stations would equal the electricity consumption of more than 7,000 detached houses with electric heating.

Bergö

Fortum is currently planning a wind power project with a combined capacity of 15–20 MW in Ostrobothnia, on the island of Bergö in the municipality of Maalahti. The plan is to build from 3 to 5 wind power stations in the area with a combined annual output corresponding to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 2,000–2,700 detached houses with electric heating.

Kalajoki

Fortum is developing a wind power project in Kalajoki in the Tohkoja area. According to a preliminary plan, between 30 and 40 wind power stations with a capacity of 3–7.5 MW will be built in the area. The annual output of the wind farm would equal the electricity consumption of more than 15,000 detached houses with electric heating.

Loviisa

Fortum is planning a test wind farm to be built in the Björnvik area in the vicinity of the Loviisa nuclear power plant. A total of 2–3 wind power stations can be built in the area. The capacity of one wind power station will be 2 to 5 MW. The aim at the test farm is to gain experience in the operation and maintenance of new types of wind power stations.
