Fortum highlights the need to develop a common Nordic retail electricity market

​Fortum welcomes the NordREG commitment to take forward the development of the Nordic retail electricity market, as requested by the Nordic energy ministers in 2010.

NordREG's recommendation, published on 15 December, regarding customer interface and billing scheme is a step forward in the process which aims to a common Nordic retail electricity market. A common market will increase competition among retail companies across Nordic countries which again will benefit consumers through better service level and competitive prices. Common operation environment will also enhance efficient utilization of smart meters technology across Nordic market.

NordREG is a cooperative organization for Nordic regulatory authorities in the energy field. NordREG's mission is to actively promote legal and institutional framework and conditions necessary for developing the Nordic and European electricity markets.
