FORTUM’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS PROPOSES TO THE SUPERVISORY BOARD THAT IT SHOULD GIVE NOTICE TO HEIKKI MARTTINEN, PRESIDENT AND CEO

Fortum’s Board of Directors has today unanimously decided to propose to the Supervisory Board, meeting 10 March 2000, that it should give notice to Heikki Marttinen, President and CEO. The cause of notice is the lack of confidence between the Board of Directors and President and CEO.

The Board of Directors proposes to the Supervisory Board that Eero Aittola, Corporate Executive Vice President, CFO to be appointed to carry out the duties of President and CEO of Fortum Corporation, until a new President and CEO has been appointed, and has started in his position.
