Nordic visibility for a Nordic company
Fortum is prominently involved in the Ice Hockey World Championships in Sweden in 2002 and in Finland in 2003. The co-operation agreement on the matter was signed at the turn of the year. Fortum is the only energy company to sponsor the championships.
"Ice hockey is a fast-moving and popular game, with a vast number of players and viewers. In the past few years, the Swedish and Finnish teams have been successful in the world championships, which has boosted the popularity of the game in both countries. Partnership in the championships to be played in the Nordic countries supports our Nordic strategy. As a fast-moving team game, ice hockey is an excellent sponsoring object for us, as we are a dynamic company," says Carola Teir-Lehtinen, Fortum's Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications.
The 2002 Ice Hockey World Championships will take place in Gothenburg, Jonköping and Karlstad in Sweden on 26 April -11 May 2002. Finland will organise the 2003 games in Helsinki, Tampere and Turku on 26 April -11 May 2003.
Fortum has long traditions in sponsoring ice hockey, including international and Finnish partnership in the 1997 World Championships in Finland. The agreement on international partnership in the 2002 and 2003 Ice Hockey World Championships is a natural continuation of the previous successful co-operation.
