Technical support for Loviisa nuclear power plant in Finland
For over 40 years, we have been closely involved in the design, construction, modernisation and operational support at the Loviisa nuclear power plant . In addition to further improvements to safety and performance, we will continue to take part in plant life management. The continuous safety and performance improvements have proven to be very successful. The top-level load factors and excellent safety indicators of the power plant are clear testimony.
Support for Olkiluoto 3 EPR Project in Finland
Another recent major reference covers consultant and engineering services including simulation during the construction of the new Olkiluoto 3 EPR nuclear power plant. We have consultants working both on- and off-site.
Spent fuel encapsulation and final disposal facilities for Posiva in Finland
Posiva delivery covered design and development work of spent nuclear fuel disposal facility mainly focusing on the encapsulation plant and final disposal facility. Consulting work on started already in the late 1980s with TVO tand continued with Posiva in 1995. In 2000, Olkiluoto been chosen for new power plant location, the work has been carried out with local site information.
Automation renewal at Loviisa NPP in Finland
Fortum has started an extensive automation systems renewal project at Loviisa NPP units 1 and 2 to ensure techical performance of the power plant in the future. This project covers all safety and operational I&C systems at plant. The work will be carried out in several phases during normal outages. The first phase for both units has been already implemented. The project is estimated to last until 2014.
Apros plant simulation model and analysis for Forsmark NPP in Sweden
We delivered APROS software and a ready-made calculation model of the Forsmark 1 & 2 NPP units in Sweden. The simulation model includes process, automation and electrical systems. It will be used for future power uprate engineering works. The APROS model provides the possibility to simultaneously simulate the dynamics of the complete steam cycle with reactor, turbines, condenser, feed water system, and control and automation systems.
The simulation model of Forsmark 3 was created in 2009.The model covers all the process, automation and electrical systems. The simulation model is suitable for various tasks during a complete project cycle in the preliminary design, detailed process and automation design, testing and safety analysis. In near future, Forsmark 3 NPP power uprate is planned.
APROS in Olkiluoto 1 & 2 NPP
The APROS simulation model of Olkiluoto 1 and 2 NPP has been used for engineering purposes for more than 5 years. The model was created by Fortum. It covers all the main systems of the BWR unit. The simulation model developed has been used in many engineering applications, e.g. in the tuning of the level controllers of the new reheater system, in the analysis of the partial reactor trip, in the analysis of the periodic test, in steam flow balance studies, and in reactor-level measurement studies.
APROS in Olkiluoto 3 EPR NPP in Finland
We have developed an APROS simulation model for the Olkiluoto 3 EPR unit. The simulation model contains a detailed description of the primary and secondary circuits, emergency systems, protection systems, and the main and some auxiliary control systems.
The EPR simulation model has been used in the analyses of some transients, such as a spurious closure of low pressure steam admission valves and reverse flow of the low pressure turbine extraction lines. The simulation model developed has been utilized also in the safety analyses, e.g. in the analysis of the cold leg, large break loss-of-coolant accident (LBLOCA).
Preparation of licensing documents for waste facilities for POSIVA and Loviisa NPP
We have prepared licensing documents for different waste processing and disposal facilities at Loviisa NPP, and for the Posiva final spent fuel disposal facility.
Safety analyses for TVO and Loviisa NPP for the final disposal of low- and intermediate-level and decommission waste
We have analysed long-term safety of final disposal of low and intermediate level and decommissioning waste from Loviisa and Olkiluoto NPPs. The analysis showed that the waste can be safely disposed to the waste disposal facilities on site fulfilling all the safety and environmental requirements.
VVER-91 (VVER-1000) concept design work
We participated in the VVER-91 (1000 MW PWR) concept design in the 1990s. The work included layout design, safety analysis, radiation protection, process design, automation and electrical design, HVAC, civil engineering, and material and strength analysis. During the work, 3D CAD models were used extensively and successfully. Also the APROS engineering simulator model was created for the VVER-91 plant unit and utilised in the engineering work.
