Environmental impacts by production form

We produce power and heat by using a diverse range of energy sources. 65 per cent of our total electricity production, and 85 percent of the electricity we produce in Europe, is carbon dioxide-free.

We are continuously developing our production to have a smaller and smaller environmental footprint, and we are investing in the lowest emitting production possible. Two thirds of our electricity production is generated with CO2-free hydro and nuclear power.

In a life-cycle assessment, all electricity production causes carbon dioxide emissions. We assess the emissions generated during the entire life cycle of all our production, and we know the environmental impacts they have. In a life-cycle assessment, the carbon dioxide emissions for nuclear, hydro, wind and solar power are in the same range.

We want to offer sustainable energy solutions that have low emissions, use natural resources efficiently and provide a reliable supply of energy. Hydro and nuclear power have a significant role in Fortum’s electricity production, and their importance will continue to grow.

We are also developing next-generation energy solutions: solar and wave power are renewable energy at its cleanest.
