Main sustainability themes

The main themes of sustainability for an energy company include actions to mitigate climate change.

Our stakeholders are interested also in e.g. nuclear safety, the responsibility of the services and goods supply chain and our activities in local communities.

We regularly survey our stakeholders’ expectations both at the Group and division level. We also conduct sector-specific benchmarking studies to better understand the energy sector’s main sustainability issues and the responses of the different players to the issues. Our involvement in national and international organisations helps us to deepen our understanding of global sustainability issues and their relation to national-level operations.

According to the feedback we receive from stakeholder surveys, important sub-areas of sustainability for Fortum are: Climate change mitigation, Reliable energy distribution, Nuclear safety and the handling and final disposal of nuclear waste, Renewable energy sources and sustainable energy solutions, Energy-efficiency solutions for customers, Fair and transparent energy prices, Customer satisfaction, Long-term profitability, Responsibility for local communities, Emissions into the environment and Responsible business practices.
