Fortum recognises best performing team and individual with an annual Fortum Safety Award for excellence in safety as well as for inspiration and being a good example. In May 2011 awards were given to Oleg Trapeznikov from Russia and Grangemouth CHP team from Scotland.
Ten years without accidents
The award-winning Grangemouth CHP team presented persistent implementation of safety and development of good practices. The team has worked for ten years without accidents to own personnel, and with just one accident happening to a contractor's worker. The team has several excellent practices such as work permits, strict requirements for personal protection, comprehensive risk assessments, active near miss reporting system, systematic and fast completion of corrective actions, and strong focus on "no blame" culture and continuous improvement. Many of these practices have also been implemented in other parts in Fortum.
Grangemouth CHP plant has also received external recognitions, for example several Royal Society awards for their outstanding safety work.
Strong commitment to safety in Russia
The individual award was given to Oleg Trapeznikov, the head of electrical group in Surgut heating networks in Russia, for his persistent implementation of safety improvements and for developing the good practises. With eight years working history in the company, he has led his team without accidents leading to lost workdays. His award was justified with several achievements, for example he did high number of safety walks in 2010, he implemented a safety program in the electrical department and made sure that everyone in Surget went through an electrical safety training. In addition to safety, he has also been very active in addressing environmental aspects.
