Management and employee collaboration

Management and employee collaboration

We emphasise an internal flow of information and active collaboration in our operations. Fortum respects employees’ freedom of association and their right to collective bargaining.

We believe that the successful management of business is built on relationships of trust between management and employees, the free flow of information and good collaboration. Resolving problems as quickly as possible between the relevant local parties provides a solid foundation for active collaboration at Fortum. The representatives of the employer and employees must avoid unnecessary confrontation in all their activities.

Fortum respects employees’ freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining. In all countries where it operates, Fortum applies local collective bargaining agreements in compliance with the scope of each respective agreement. In Finland and Sweden freedom of association is based on legislation.

Fortum’s business operations are developed and strengthened in good collaboration with employees. This is best achieved through normal daily activities at the workplace. We emphasise an open, internal flow of information and good collaboration in our operations. Fortum's Stakeholders Advisory Council has three employee representatives. The focus of collaboration is in the business units and at Fortum’s worksites.

Additionally, there are different types and levels of collaboration bodies within the Group. The national collaboration body for employees in the Nordic countries convenes twice a year to focus on personnel issues in the Nordic countries. For Europe-level collaboration, the Fortum European Council (FEC), headed by the President and CEO, convenes once a year. The members of the FEC include 20 employees from different European countries and management representatives. Additionally, the FEC’s working committee meets a few times between the actual meetings. Employees have the opportunity to submit questions and proposals to the FEC through the intranet.
