Denmark site landscape

Solving problems is in our DNA and our mission is to transform waste streams back to essential raw materials. We find solutions for our customers’ environmental and waste challenges to enable circularity of materials.

Our Recycling & Waste Denmark operation makes us a prerequisite for circular economy in the Danish and Nordic communities.

With point of origin in the high-temperature incineration facility in Nyborg, Fortum Recycling & Waste Denmark removed hazards from the environment for more than 50 years. We offer comprehensive services and solutions for final treatment, reutilisation, and recovery of complicated and hazardous waste. This makes us a prerequisite for the circular economy in the Danish and Nordic communities and industries.

Fortum Recycling & Waste Denmark detoxify hazardous waste through Best Available Techniques and convert the organic waste in thermal incineration processes to heat and electricity. Our energy supply covers 85% of the district heating needed in the Nyborg and neighboring area, and we deliver a significant amount of electricity to the public electricity grid. As part of Fortum’s Carbon2x concept, we are decarbonizing the Nyborg facility by 2030 and in the longer run our aim is to recycle the carbon in production of new materials, e.g. plastic.

Fortum Recycling & Waste Denmark complies with all relevant standards and has a processing capacity of approx. 180,000 tonnes of hazardous waste. We create value for, manufacturing industries, the maritime industry, universities, hospitals, collection companies, workshops etc. and deliver full traceability throughout the treatment process. In the Nordics, we develop solutions for recycling of soil, ash, slags, plastics, and EV batteries and recovery of iron and metals.
