Fortum entered the Swedish market in 1996 in conjunction with the energy market reforms. Today Fortum is one of the major energy companies on the Swedish market with strong presence in fossil-free power generation, electricity sales and waste & recycling.

Hydropower

We have a total of 111 hydropower plants in Sweden. Hydropower is the most important form of renewable energy in the Nordic countries. It is a steady source of power that produces no CO2 emissions. And with only water as an input, the low operating costs of hydropower stabilise the price of electricity for everyone.

Nuclear power

Fortum is co-owner of the Swedish nuclear power plants Oskarshamn and Forsmark. Fortum is co-owner of the Swedish nuclear power plants Oskarshamn and Forsmark. Fortum owns 43% of the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant and just over 22% of the Forsmark nuclear power plant.

Wind and solar power

Fortum's goal is to grow in wind- and solar power. Fortum has joint ownership in its Nordic wind power portfolio also serving as long-term asset manager. In Sweden the portfolio consists of the wind power park Solberg and several projects under development. Fortum is also planning an industrial scale solar park on Southern Gotland.

Our Recycling & Waste Swedish operation makes us a prerequisite for circular economy in the Swedish and Nordic industries and communities.

With point of origin in the facility in Kumla, Fortum Recycling & Waste have removed hazards from the environment for more than 50 years. We offer comprehensive services and solutions for final treatment of complicated and hazardous waste, reutilization of materials and recycling. In the Nordics, we develop solutions for recycling of soil, ash, slags, plastics, and EV-batteries and recovery of iron and metals.
