Tartu CHP plant
Tartu Elektrijaam is a biomass-fuelled CHP plant located in village of Lohvka near Tartu in South Estonia. It was commissioned in April 2009.
Local biofuels as a source of energy
The Tartu CHP plant uses local biofuels – woodchips and peat to produce electricity and heat. Electricity is sold to Nordpool market. The heat is delivered through owned district heating network for more than 75 % of Tartu's residents. Fortum has 1 302 customers and ca 72,000 end users in Tartu.
