Fortum on a mission to strengthen Kapeli’s education, healthcare and water infrastructure

  • Equips Kapeli Primary School and Kapeli Secondary School with solar infrastructure
  • Enables Kapeli Dispensary to operate 24X7 with uninterrupted electricity
  • Builds 10,000 litre water tank in Kapeli to address the village’s water problem

Delhi, 14th  December 2015: Fortum Finnsurya Energy Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Finland-based utility company who is operating a 10 MW Solar Power Plant in Kapeli, today pledged to equip Kapeli with better infrastructure and improve the lives of villagers with a series of social initiatives. The company has equipped local schools and dispensary with solar-powered infrastructure and also, constructed a 10,000 litre water tank to address Kapeli villagers’ water woes.


Fortum has endowed the primary and secondary schools in Kapeli with basic electricity infrastructure, powered by the solar energy. The initiative is expected to benefit about 250 students from the village, studying in these schools. Moreover, the company has energised the only clinic in the village with solar-powered infrastructure to ensure 24X7 uninterrupted basic medical aid facilities.


Fortum has also constructed a 10,000 litre water tank in the village kapeli to help villagers have immediate access to water for various purposes including drinking.


Announcing the initiative, Mr. Sanjay Aggarwal, Managing Director, Fortum India said “The initiative is a testimony of Fortum’s commitment towards sustainable development. We have always been inclined towards environment friendliness to be a way of life and thus, our initiatives focus on empowering the community as a whole. We will keep looking at more such initiatives to have a stronger connect with society and build greener communities around our area of operations”. On this occasion Mr. Aggarwal announced that streets of Kapeli village shall be electrified with solar light as requested by villagers.


Fortum India commissioned 10MW solar PV plant in Kapeli, a village in Dist. Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh in end December 2015 .  Fortum has been awarded with the prestigious solar project of the year award by Asian Power Awards 2015 for its 10MW plant in Kapeli, MP. It was the first plant to be commissioned under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) Phase II initiative and developed under the VGF scheme of Solar Energy Corporation of India.
