District cooling

Fortum owns and runs the district cooling operations in Stockholm, which include the world's largest district cooling network.

District cooling is simple and clean. It creates a cool, efficient indoor climate, without the need for bulky refrigeration equipment and noise in or near  residences. The supply is assured year-round with minimal maintenance needed, which is reflected in reduced operating costs and lower investment requirements.

Connecting a property to the district cooling network removes the need for refrigeration equipment and units on roofs and in gardens. This frees up large amounts of space. "New" space obviously means new possibilities, which often bring significant savings for the property.

Primarily cold lake and sea water, or free cooling, is used in district cooling production. Fortum Värme produces both district heating and district cooling, making double use of the energy and generating an environmentally viable, resource-light means of energy production.
