Jönköping Energi chooses Fortum Charge & Drive Cloud for operating its electric vehicle charging stations

Fortum and the Swedish electricity company Jönköping Energi have initiated collaboration to develop a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The overall purpose is to provide a total of 30 public charging stations for the residents of the city of Jönköping; the collaboration is expected to start in the fall of 2016. Jönköping Energi will own and manage the charging stations. Together with Fortum Charge & Drive, a simple and nationwide service will link Jönköping to the Charge & Drive Nordic network consisting of more than 600 charging stations.

“Through this partnership, our charging stations will be part of a network that enables us to take an active role in strengthening the Swedish infrastructure for electric vehicles. Jönköping’s geographical location gives us the opportunity to assist the many owners of electric vehicles who want to drive longer distances in a climate-friendly way,” says Fridolf Eskilsson, CEO of Jönköping Energi.

The expansion project will last two years and carries the possibility of extension to meet the future needs for electric vehicle charging.

“We are initially concentrating the public charging stations to high-use areas in Jönköping. Other business opportunities will also be available for businesses, associations and individuals who want to provide and own their own charging stations,” says Project Manager Erik Wiström, Jönköping Energi.

“We are pleased about the collaboration with Jönköping Energi to expand the infrastructure for today's and tomorrow's electric car drivers. This applies both to residents in Jönköping and to those who want to drive between the three metropolitan regions of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. We warmly welcome Jönköping Energi as a collaboration partner. The demand for charging solutions is great, and I hope Jönköping Energi and their customers will benefit from our system,” says Tobias Henmark, Sales and Marketing Manager, Fortum Charge & Drive Sweden.
