Fortum continues sponsoring ice hockey.

Fortum and the Swedish Ice Hockey Association have signed a co-operation agreement that covers the international matches of Tre Kronor, the Swedish national team, in the 2003-2004 season. There is also an option to extend the agreement to the 2004-2005 season.

The agreement signed with the Swedish Ice Hockey Association is a natural continuation of Fortum’s investment in ice hockey. The company sponsored ice hockey in the world championships in Finland and Sweden in both 2002 and 2003. Both events were a successful target for sponsorship and they attracted a great deal of interest among the public.

Ice hockey is well suited to Fortum’s Nordic strategy and brand. “The game is associated with many attributes that can also be related to us. It is a team game that requires determination, co-operation skills and the desire to be the best. Furthermore, as a dynamic and energetic game, ice hockey is very popular in the Nordic countries,” explains Carola Teir-Lehtinen, Fortum’s Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications.
