Fortum discusses land acquisition with the City of Loviisa

08 April 2024, 14:45 EEST

Fortum has initiated discussions with the City of Loviisa regarding a planning reservation agreement of city-owned land areas. The land in question is located in the vicinity of the Loviisa power plant, along the Atomitie road leading to the plant.

Fortum is interested in land that could, in the long term, be suitable for nuclear power or industrial activities contributing to the clean transition. This is in line with Fortum’s strategy that focuses on providing reliable clean energy and driving decarbonization in industries. Fortum does not yet have detailed plans for the possible use of the land.

"Loviisa has provided Fortum with a good operating environment for over 40 years, and with the extension of the Loviisa power plant's lifetime, we have committed to the city for decades to come. We now want to engage in dialogue with the local community about the new opportunities the energy transition can offer Loviisa. If discussions about the land acquisition progress, we will inform and regularly engage with local stakeholders in collaboration with the city," says Mika Rainemaa, Director of Real Estate at Fortum.

If discussions between Fortum and the City of Loviisa lead to an agreement, the land use planning and zoning will be carried out in close cooperation with the City of Loviisa and local stakeholders.
