Zabrze CHP plant
Zabrze CHP is the oldest of Fortum's plants in Poland. The power plant has been in operation since 1897. The basic fuel fired in four steam boilers is hard coal from local coal mines in Upper Silesia.
The production capacity of CHP Zabrze is 62.9 MW of electricity and 174.2 MW of heat and that covers the heating demand of households in Zabrze. Power plant uses coal as a fuel.
In 2018 Fortum will commission a new multi-fuel CHP, fired by coal, RDF and biomass that will eventually replace the existing plant, vastly improving air quality in the area.
