Countdown to Innovation: Fortum Spark at Slush

Fortum has partnered with Slush to drive innovation and discover transformative solutions shaping the future of energy. Slush 2024, held in Helsinki on November 20-21, will bring together 5,500 startups and 3,300 investors, making Helsinki the hotspot of the startup world for a week.
Solving Challenges through Collaboration
The energy sector is undergoing a profound transformation driven by the urgent need to tackle climate change. While a significant progress has been made in decarbonizing and electrifying our society, many solutions are still needed. As renewable energy sources grow, we face the challenges of managing volatile electricity prices and ensuring a reliable supply. To accelerate our efforts and stabilize the energy market, we must innovate together.
Bridging Ideas and Resources
Fortum is committed to creating a world where people, businesses, and nature thrive together. We unite our customers, startups, and researchers to tackle key challenges through innovation and collaboration. An example of this is the Fortum Spark Innovation Challenge, designed to discover and support innovative ideas that can advance electrification and decarbonization. In September 2024, visionary innovators, early-stage startups, and future founders were invited to present ideas that have the potential to shape the future of energy.
The winner will be announced next week at Fortum’s Side Event during Slush 2024, where five finalists will pitch their ideas: Ambidex, CuRen, Solstice Energy Storage, WaterTread Generator and Korall. “We are excited by the number of applications and the diverse, high-quality business ideas from the top candidates. Beyond the finalists, we have received many other interesting ideas from startups that we are currently reviewing for potential collaboration”, says Stefan Sonnerstedt, Head of Startup Investments & Collaboration at Fortum.
