FORTUM CORPORATION PRESS RELEASE 22.1.2026
DayOne, a Singapore-based global data centre developer and operator, has today announced its plans to build a data centre in Nurmijärvi, Finland. The new data centre will be located in the Sudentulli planning area, which is owned by the municipality.
In February 2024, Fortum announced that it had signed a planning reservation agreement comprising marketing, zoning and grid connection support with the municipality of Nurmijärvi for a data centre site in Sudentulli. This agreement marked the first phase of developing the site for a possible data centre investment.
Now, Fortum has signed a development agreement (SSDA) with DayOne and will continue the work initiated in 2024. Municipality of Nurmijärvi and DayOne have also initiated the process for a preliminary land sale of the Sudentulli site. According to the agreement between Fortum and DayOne, Fortum’s role in the Sudentulli project is to support the smooth progress of DayOne’s project development, including preparing the site for investment. The site development agreement has no material impact on Fortum’s earnings.
“These types of projects play a key role in driving electrification and digitalisation in our societies. Early-stage site development by zoning and securing grid connections can speed up the implementation of a data centre project for the actual operator by 1-4 years. Fortum's local knowledge and expertise in large projects make us an excellent energy and project development partner for international operators”, says Urs Pennanen, Senior Vice President responsible for Corporate Customers at Fortum.
Driving decarbonisation in industries and delivering reliable, low-carbon energy are at the heart of Fortum’s strategy. Fortum is uniquely positioned to help energy-intensive industries find sites fast where they can build their new, low-emission operations.
