FORTUM CORPORATION PRESS RELEASE 8.1.2026

Fortum scored A for its climate efforts in the 2025 Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) report. Fortum’s overall scoring improved from A- to A. Of the 16 categories, Fortum received the highest score A in 12 (75%). To earn an A/A- score from CDP, organizations must show environmental leadership, disclosing action on climate change. Compared to the 2024 report, Fortum made most significant improvements in the 2025 report category “Risk disclosure”. The 2025 report is based on Fortum’s 2024 performance. 2025 marks Fortum’s twentieth anniversary with CDP.

"I am very proud that Fortum is recognized for its climate leadership in this ranking. Sustainability is at the core of our strategy and what we do. We support societies’ and customers’ decarbonisation journeys. In January 2025, Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) officially validated our emission reduction targets as being aligned with the Paris Climate Agreement. Our net-zero emissions by 2040 across the value chain is a strong commitment to the energy transition and supporting the electrification of societies," says Tomas Qvickström, Vice President, Corporate Sustainability.

Fortum is one of the least carbon-intensive power producers in Europe with 99% power generated with low-carbon technologies. In addition to the SBTi targets, Fortum will exit coal in its production already by 2027. Fortum continues to work towards these targets with its decarbonisation projects, such as Espoo Clean Heat and fuel-switching from coal to biomass and refuse-derived fuel in Poland.

CDP is a non-profit charity promoting sustainable development. It assesses companies’ climate performance globally on a scale from A to D. The organisation maintains a global reporting system through which companies and cities can measure, monitor and control their environmental impacts.
