Fortum hosts Eurelectric Power Summit in Helsinki as electrification drives Europe’s competitiveness

Fortum is hosting Eurelectric’s annual Power Summit Power Summit - External link 2026 in Helsinki on 3 – 4 June, bringing together European decision-makers and industry leaders at a critical moment for Europe’s competitiveness and energy transition.

The event marks the mid-point of Fortum’s President and CEO Markus Rauramo’s two-year presidency of Eurelectric, the federation of the European electricity industry, representing over 3,500 utilities, generators, and distributors. During the current mandate, the presidency has focused on accelerating electrification and Europe’s competitiveness, strengthening energy system resilience and enabling investments in clean power.

At the Summit, Eurelectric published a new report report - External link ”Power Couples: enhancing industrial competitiveness through electrification”. The report shows that Europe’s competitiveness increasingly depends on scaling up industrial electrification through more integrated approaches. The report highlights the need to better align clean power supply, grid infrastructure, market signals and investment frameworks to unlock electrification at speed.

“Electrification is central to Europe’s industrial future, but it must move faster and at scale”, said Markus Rauramo at the press conference that was held in connection with the Power Summit on 3 June. “We need predictable investment frameworks, faster grid development and coordinated delivery models to unlock progress.”

The discussions in Helsinki underline the need for close cooperation between policymakers, industry and the power sector to turn electrification ambitions into concrete investments and projects. The Nordic experience has a lot to contribute to this debate – our energy system demonstrates how electrification can support both competitiveness and security of supply, with a high share of clean power, strong market integration and a solid foundation for further growth.
