Energy production generate emissions to the environment. Fortum controls emissions to air, water and soil caused by its operations and aims to reduce environmental impacts by fuel-switching and using technological solutions and flue-gas cleaning technologies.

All Fortum’s power plants operate in compliance with the terms of their environmental permits and the requirements in the environmental management standard, and all production sites are ISO 14001 certified. Fortum continuously measures emissions; deviations to environmental permit limits are internally investigated and reported to authorities. Major non-compliances and major leaks or spills into the environment are classified and treated as major environmental incidents.
