Fortum Battery Recycling has completed the statutory change negotiations in Finland and is aligning its operations with future growth areas. As part of this transition, operations at Ikaalinen and Tornio will be phased out during the first half of 2026.
The company’s main focus going forward is hydrometallurgical recycling, which enables efficient recovery of valuable metals from battery waste and supports a sustainable battery value chain in Europe. Fortum operates a hydrometallurgical plant in Harjavalta and plans to expand this facility to meet growing demand for recycled battery materials.
In addition, Fortum Battery Recycling will continue to develop battery recycling services in continental Europe, including pre-treatment capabilities in Germany, and strengthen partnerships with mechanical recyclers for black mass production.
