Karl-Johan Hellblom - Director, Wind & Solar Development

I'm Karl-Johan Hellblom, responsible for Fortum's project development departments for solar and wind in Sweden and Norway. In my role, I lead a team dedicated to finding new areas for wind and solar power, negotiating land leases, and navigating the permitting process up until the start of construction. This dynamic role ensures that no two days are the same, keeping me energized and engaged.

My team consists of project managers and developers spread across different parts of Sweden. Despite the geographical distance, we work together seamlessly to enable more wind and solar power projects. Their dedication and talent are key to Fortum's success in renewable energy development.

What I enjoy most about my work is the diversity of tasks and the talented colleagues I collaborate with. The commitment of my team to driving the energy transition is a constant source of inspiration. The work involves many different aspects, which I enjoy and feel energized by.

One of the most exciting projects I have been part of is the hybrid project Trängslet. This ambitious initiative aims to build a large solar park adjacent to Fortum's hydropower plant Trängslet. Combining different renewable power sources is a significant step towards building a resilient and sustainable power system.

The Wind & Solar division has extensive growth plans for the upcoming year. Fortum aims to scale up its development pipeline in solar and wind power, which means expanding the team significantly. We will hire about 20 people to help us with all different parts of project development.
