Fortum’s Nuclear Operations Showcased at WNE 2025 in Paris
7 November 2025
Fortum’s nuclear operations were prominently featured during the world’s leading civil nuclear exhibition, WNE 2025, held 4–6 November in Paris. This biennial event attracted a record-breaking +25,000 visitors and nearly 1,000 exhibitors from over 80 countries. WNE brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to explore the future of nuclear energy and its critical role in achieving climate and energy security goals.

Throughout WNE, Fortum representatives were actively engaged in various parts of the programme. President and CEO Markus Rauramo participated in a main stage panel discussion on new financing solutions for nuclear power, while Chief Nuclear Officer Petra Lundström joined a panel focused on nuclear fuel issues. Fortum experts also hosted three workshops as part of the official WNE programme, covering the following topics: partnerships in new nuclear, long-term operation of nuclear power plants, waste management solutions.
As the largest event in the nuclear sector, WNE offered an excellent opportunity to meet current and potential partners and strengthen collaboration with them. During the event, Fortum, EDF, and NUWARD signed a new Framework Cooperation Agreement to continue sharing expertise in nuclear operations, newbuild projects, and market development.
Earlier this year, Fortum shortlisted two large-scale reactor technology providers, EDF and Westinghouse-Hyundai, as well as with one SMR developer, GE-Vernova Nuclear Energy. In June, Fortum and the selected companies formalized their collaboration by signing Early Works Agreements.
