Fortum undertakes efficiency improvements in its service functions Fortum will re-organise its service functions in order to further develop internal processes so that they better answer the evolving needs. Due to the re-organisation plans, Fortum starts cooperation negotiations with personnel representatives over the reduction of a maximum of 55 jobs in Finland and 180 jobs in Sweden. The changes now undertaken are part of a development programme initiated in 2006 and aiming at creating more efficient and higher quality workflows. Also the increased utilisation of online services and higher level of automation in e.g. meter reading and electronic invoicing, have changed the internal ways of working. The planned re-organisation will cover the electricity retail customer service operations as well as support functions related to corporate financial services. These service functions will be re-located closer to the business units' other operations. The centralisation does not include local network related operational tasks, such as network installation work. The implementation of the changes now under negotiation are planned to be executed by end of 2009. The cooperation negotiations with personnel representatives will start on 15 September and the aim is to find alternative solutions for as many employees as possible.
