Fortum is increasing energy awareness in Poland among middle and high-school students through an educational competition called Fortum Energy Game.

Organised for the fourth time, the Energy Game was kicked off in January in the cities of Zabrze, Bytom and Czestochowa – with Wroclaw to follow this week.

The Energy Game has been developed by Fortum specialists to raise awareness about energy and ecology in an understandable and accessible way. Its aim is to make young people realise that everyday behavior clearly influences energy consumption, as well as to inspire discussion on energy issues.

Fortum provides educational materials to all interested schools and offers students the opportunity to participate in a demonstration lesson. During the lesson, the class is divided into teams of 4–5 students. The participants must demonstrate not only knowledge and the ability to solve practical problems in the field of power engineering and ecology but also creativity and readiness to work in a team.

The winning teams have an opportunity to compete in the finals of the month, which can then give them the right to attend the grand final, which will be held at the end of the school year, in June.

–We believe that learning through competition is a great way to encourage young people to take an interest in energy efficiency. The knowledge they obtain will be useful to them in everyday life, says Daria Sulgostowska, coordinator of the Energy Game at Fortum Poland.

The Energy Game is also utilised in education programs in Sweden and Finland. The materials can be accessed here.
