28 May 2026 at 09:40 EEST

Fortum was named the top performing company on climate in this year’s Financial Times’ European Climate Leaders list of companies that are making progress in cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Compiled by FT and Statista, the list ranks companies based on several factors, such as reductions in greenhouse gas emissions (intensity and total), commitment to the Science-Based Targets initiative and Climate Disclosure Project (CDP) grade.
Fortum was ranked the top company overall of European companies. This is an improvement from 2025 when Fortum ranked 8th overall and 3rd in the Energy and Utilities sector.
“We are very proud of the progress we have made in emissions reductions and happy that our work is being recognised by major media outlets like FT. As a Nordic energy company with one of the lowest CO₂ emissions in Europe, we generate reliable power primarily from renewable and nuclear sources, helping industries decarbonise and societies thrive. Our aim is to drive electrification in the Nordics,“ says Tomas Qvickström, Vice President Corporate Sustainability at Fortum.
