Fortum is developing an approximately 60-hectare site for data centre operations in Pispantalli, Valkeakoski in cooperation with the City of Valkeakoski. The City of Valkeakoski is preparing the local detailed plan for the area while Fortum initiates the project’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedure.
Fortum’s objective is to develop the area and market it to potential data centre operators. The actual investment will be made by the data centre developer and operator.
“Pispantalli area has several features that make it well suited for data centre development. The site provides a contiguous land area suitable for large-scale industrial development, is already partially zoned for industrial use, and is located close to good transport connections and electricity infrastructure. These factors provide a strong foundation for developing the area for future data centre operations,” says Jyrki Holappa, Customer Site Development Director at Fortum.
“The data centre would be a significant economic opportunity for our city. The future property tax and corporate tax revenues, combined with employment opportunities created during both construction and operations, would help us maintain high-quality public services well into the future without placing additional pressure on local taxation,” says Minna Uschanoff, Mayor of Valkeakoski.
Fortum’s objective is to advance electrification and enable new investments in Finland. By carrying out early-stage industrial site development, Fortum aims to shorten the time-to-market for new industrial investments that utilize low-carbon electricity and to strengthen Finland’s competitiveness as an investment destination.
