In a recent interview, Paula Pylväs, VP Digital Customer Offerings (DCO) in Consumer Solutions, shared her thoughts about DCO's ambitious digital transformation plans. She highlighted the importance of customer-centric development, the company's efforts to consolidate its technology landscape to a global digital core and the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.

Creating superior customer value

DCO is embarking on a significant digital transformation journey aimed at enhancing customer engagement and creating superior value. According to Pylväs, the department has successfully consolidated and harmonized its technology landscape, building a very modern tech stack that spans from customer-facing solutions to the core systems and common data platform. This foundation allows DCO to develop innovative digital offerings in close collaboration with customers.

“We are in a fabulous place to start developing digital offerings, together with our customers,” she states. “If we understand the customer needs well, we can develop and partner up with other players to create really customer centric solutions. This includes versatile digital services on the web and apps, for example for EV owners, smart charging and sustainable living”, according to Pylväs.

Optimizing the use of energy

DCO aims to be a smart and intelligent partner for customers, providing a seamless and sustainable ecosystem. The focus is on making sustainable living more convenient and enjoyable, leveraging digital services to optimize energy use and enhance the overall customer experience.

The initiative also involves consolidating and harmonizing the technology landscape, building a modern tech stack that spans from customer-facing solutions to our core systems. This foundation allows DCO to develop innovative digital offerings in close collaboration with customers.

“We have a common data platform in Azure in place, available both for our analytics purposes and for our developers. Not many companies have that in place the way we have”, Pylväs says.

Attracting top talents

The company is currently focusing on attracting top talents to support its digital transformation. Competencies such as service and UX designers, solution architects, software and data engineers are crucial for understanding customer needs and developing scalable, cost-efficient solutions. Even with the great opportunities through AI, it’s all about the people and how we work together.

“We believe our modern tech stack and cutting-edge technology will make us an attractive employer for professionals in the field. The people who read this and are interested are more than welcomed to reach out to me to hear more about what the future will look like in Consumer Solutions”, Pylväs invites.

Purpose driven

Fortum is a highly purpose driven energy company aiming for “Power a world where people, businesses and nature thrives together”. The company's efforts to harmonize its technology landscape and attract top talent are key to achieving its ambitious goals.

“We really hope that the talents we are looking for are valuing our purpose and takes the opportunity to join us in our efforts to deliver upon our purpose”, Pylväs concludes.
