The annual refueling and maintenance outage on Unit 1 of Fortum's Loviisa nuclear power plant begins on Sunday 18 August. After Unit 1, Unit 2 will be serviced and the whole procedure is estimated to be completed at the end of September. Both units are scheduled for refueling outages, which means that no major alterations or repairs will be carried out.
”Besides normal periodic maintenance tasks and refueling, one engine of the Loviisa 1 emergency diesel generator will be replaced by a renovated one. Moreover, the 6 kV main switch at the switch plant and the 400 kV switch at the switch field will be replaced”, says Pertti Salonen, manager of Loviisa power plant's maintenance unit.
At Loviisa 2, the most significant task besides the normal periodic maintenance and refueling is the 400 kV switch replacements at the switch field. The Finnish transmission system operator Fingrid Oyj is in charge of the 400 kV switch replacements for both plant units.
