Because from the very first contact I got a warm and welcoming impression. Fortum felt like an organization with strong expertise, but also with a clear focus on collaboration and people. I am part of the team responsible for ensuring that the IT landscape for Fortum’s hydropower operations is developed in a structured, secure, and reliable way. In my role, I work closely with many different business stakeholders to gather, structure, and quality assure information related to new initiatives and needs.
I work on keeping our demand portfolio updated and making sure the right information is available to determine which initiatives are ready to be launched as projects. This means that I act as a link between strategy, operations, and implementation.
What is the most enjoyable part of your role?
The most enjoyable part of my role is that I get to collaborate with many engaged and knowledgeable people across different parts of the organization. I also get a broad overview of ongoing and upcoming IT initiatives that impact hydropower, which gives me a strong understanding of the bigger picture and future developments.

How would you describe the culture at Fortum?
Open, inclusive, and unpretentious. It is a work environment where it feels natural to help each other and share knowledge. I have experienced that it is always okay to reach out to someone you have not worked with before, regardless of role or function, to ask for advice or input. This creates a safe and collaborative culture where people feel welcomed and encouraged to contribute.
How do you see the future, and do you have any specific plans in your role as an engineer?
In the long term, I would like to take on more strategic responsibility and work more with development initiatives, new projects, and leadership. I am interested in roles where I can combine technical understanding with a holistic perspective. For me, it is important to work in an industry with a clear societal benefit, where I feel that my work contributes to something bigger. This is something I already experience at Fortum today, which makes me see a long-term future there.
What qualities should a good leader have?
A good leader is empathetic and able to see and listen to the people in their team. Creating safety and trust is fundamental. At the same time, clarity and structure are important qualities, both when it comes to priorities, expectations, and goals. A leader who can combine human engagement with clear decision-making creates strong conditions for both relationships and results.

How did you start your journey in the Female Leader Engineer network?
I applied to the Female Leader Engineer program in 2025 and was accepted that same autumn. During the program, I had the opportunity to meet many inspiring participants with different backgrounds and experiences. We visited several companies, met leaders in various roles, and gained broad insights into leadership-related topics. It was a very rewarding period that gave me new perspectives, a strong network, and increased motivation to continue developing.
What makes you happy outside of work?
Outside of work, I spend a lot of time outdoors with my hunting labrador. It gives me both energy and balance in everyday life. I enjoy training and working together with him on different exercises, such as obedience and retrieving, and it is very rewarding to follow his development. I also value time with friends and family, and on a more creative level I enjoy drawing with pencil and acrylic paint.
What is your advice to others who want a career at Fortum?
My main advice is to show engagement and curiosity. Dare to reach out to people who already work at Fortum to get a better understanding of the organization and the opportunities available. The career portal is regularly updated with many different roles, so it is good to keep an eye on it. When applying for a position, it is important to tailor your CV and cover letter to the role, and not be afraid to show who you are. Reaching out to the hiring manager can also be a good way to demonstrate interest and commitment.
