Origin of electricity for enterprise customers
All of Fortum Markets Oy's electricity contracts are origin-verified. When our customer signs an electricity contract with us, we purchase an amount of guarantees of origin equivalent to our customer's electricity consumption. All our business customers can also add the Fortum Yritys Alkuperä additional service to their electricity contract. In that case, the contract includes guarantees of origin that document that the amount of electricity equivalent to the consumption has been produced from renewable energy, such as hydropower, wind power, or solar power.
Origin of electricity for enterprise customers
Many of Fortum Markets Oy's electricity contracts include guarantees of origin. When our business customers enter into such an electricity contract with us, we purchase an amount of guarantees of origin equivalent to the customer's electricity consumption, which document that the corresponding amount of electricity has been produced from low-emission energy sources, such as nuclear power.
If our business customer has added the Fortum Yritys Alkuperä or Fortum Alkuperä Basic additional service to their electricity contract, the contract includes guarantees of origin that document that the amount of electricity equivalent to the customer's consumption has been produced from 100% renewable energy sources.
Fortum's large business customers (electricity consumption over 200,000 kWh per year) can purchase the residual mix of electricity production, which includes electricity produced from nuclear power and fossil fuels, as well as the share of renewable electricity production that has not been sold separately as guarantees of origin.
Total distribution and emissions
The reporting of the distribution of energy sources and emissions is regulated by the law based on the Internal Market Directive for Electricity. The reporting concerns electricity sold during the previous calendar year. The total distribution and emissions data is published when the production data for the previous year is available.
Fortum Markets Oy sold electricity contracts to both households and enterprise customers in 2024. Electricity was purchased from the Nord Pool power exchange and from smaller electricity producers.

If you have added the Fortum Yritys Alkuperä additional service to your electricity contract, the contract includes guarantees of origin that document that the amount of electricity equivalent to your consumption has been produced from 100% renewable sources.
For business customers whose annual electricity consumption is less than 200,000 kWh and who do not have the Fortum Yritys Alkuperä service, the electricity we sell is produced using nuclear power. The emissions generated in its production were as follows:

If your company's annual electricity consumption is over 200,000 kWh and you have added the Fortum Alkuperä additional service to your electricity contract, the contract includes guarantees of origin that document that the amount of electricity equivalent to your consumption has been produced from 100% renewable sources.

The residual allocation of the electricity production includes electricity produced using nuclear power and fossil fuels, as well as the share of renewable electricity production that has not been sold separately as a guarantee of origin. Emissions of the residual mix were as follows:

Yes. In the electricity grid, electricity produced with different production methods mixes together, so the origin of electricity is documented computationally with the help of guarantees of origin. The origin is separated from the electricity at the moment of production, and the use of guarantees of origin is tracked in a separate Guarantee of Origin system.
