Total distribution and emissions
The reporting of the distribution of energy sources and emissions is regulated by the law based on the Internal Market Directive for Electricity. Frequently asked questions about the origin of electricity
Yes, electricity from different origins gets mixed in the electrical grid, so the verification of origin is done computationally. Electricity origin is decoupled from electricity production, and its sales are monitored separately under the Guarantee of Origin system. The system offers you, as an electricity user, the possibility to choose renewable electricity. Only electricity that has been issued a guarantee of origin can be sold as renewable.
The Guarantee of Origin system ensures that electricity with the environmental label is generated with renewable energy sources in compliance with Directive 2001/77/EC. The verification is performed per production plant and production time as part of an annual audit conducted by an external auditor.
In the case of nuclear power, the producer guarantees the origin of the electricity.
