Which businesses is Yritys Duo suitable for?
The Yritys Duo contract is an excellent choice for your company if you want to optimize your electricity consumption and save on costs. This contract model is particularly suitable for businesses that can schedule their electricity usage during cheaper hours. By timing your consumption, you can influence the total amount of your company's electricity bill.
The Yritys Duo contract allows your company to plan electricity costs in advance. This brings predictability and stability to business budgeting. This contract is suitable for companies regardless of the industry.
How is the price calculated?
The electricity bill consists of a monthly basic fee of EUR 5.40 (VAT 0%) and a fixed electricity price charged according to electricity use, which accounts for the consumption effect that varies monthly and either decreases or increases the price.
When signing a new electricity contract, the share of fixed-price electricity, which remains the same for two or three years, is set. This offers protection against changes in electricity prices. However, if most of your electricity consumption takes place during hours when the electricity exchange price is lower than the monthly average price, the price of electricity in your invoice will decrease.
In other words, the hourly prices of your company’s consumption are compared with the monthly average spot price. The final monthly energy price is always composed of the fixed energy price +/- the consumption impact.
What is the consumption impact?
Most of the price in the Yritys Duo contract is fixed. However, your bill's total amount is also slightly affected by the consumption impact, which can either increase or decrease your electricity price. For 67% of our Yritys Duo customers, the realized consumption effect has been between -0.00 to +0.60 cents/kWh, and for 95% of customers, it has been between -0.44 cents/kWh to +1.44 cents/kWh. Even if you cannot time your electricity usage, the consumption impact's effect on your electricity bill is small.
The consumption impact is determined by the time of day and the days on which you use most of your electricity. Generally, if you use most of your electricity when the market price is high (often during weekday evenings), the consumption effect will increase your price. Conversely, if you use most of your electricity during cheaper times (such as nights and weekends), your price will decrease.
The consumption impact is added to or subtracted from the fixed electricity price you pay in cents per kWh. For example, if you sign a Yritys Duo contract with a fixed base price of 8.2 cents/kWh and your consumption effect is -0.5 cents/kWh, you will pay 8.2 - 0.5 = 7.7 cents/kWh for that month. If your consumption effect is +0.8 cents/kWh, you will pay 8.2 + 0.8 = 9 cents/kWh for that month.

Frequently asked questions
The consumption impact varies according to the hourly price on the electricity exchange and your company’s consumption. You can get the best of both fixed prices and the fluctuating prices of exchange-traded electricity.
Depending on when your company consumes electricity, either a deduction or an additional fee will be applied to the total amount of your invoice.
By allocating consumption to inexpensive hours, you can save on your electricity bill.
All consumption taking place during hours when the price of electricity is less than the monthly average spot price improves the consumption impact.
In the Fortum Yritys Duo contract, the final monthly energy price is always composed of the fixed energy price +/- the consumption impact.
Simply put, the hourly prices of your company’s consumption are compared with the monthly average spot price.
So far, 95% of the Yritys Duo customers have had an average consumption impact between -0.44 c/kWh and +1.44 c/kWh. This means that in some months, the consumption impact has been outside the mentioned range, but when calculating an average of the consumption impact during the months when it has been at its lowest and highest, the majority of Yritys Duo customers have an average consumption impact of -0.44 c/kWh to +1.44 c/kWh.
The consumption impact is neither higher nor lower based on how much electricity you usually use. The consumption impact can be the same for a small company as for a larger company, for example, -0.5 c/kWh or +0.5 c/kWh.
The size of the consumption impact also depends on the general price of market electricity: the more expensive the market electricity is on average during the month, the greater the positive or negative consumption impact, i.e., the further from zero it is. Cheaper market electricity, in turn, makes the consumption impact very close to zero.
What factors affect the consumption impact?
The amount of electricity you normally use does not affect the consumption impact, but rather whether most of the electricity consumption occurs during hours when market electricity is cheaper or more expensive.
The factors that consume the most electricity have the greatest impact on the consumption impact. Whether you have the lights on or off in the office has no significant impact, as lighting usually accounts for a very small part of the total electricity consumption.
If you can concentrate tasks that consume a lot of electricity during cheaper hours, your consumption impact is likely to be small or negative. Conversely, if you perform activities that require a lot of electricity mainly during expensive hours, your consumption impact will be positive, meaning it will increase the cost.
When is it smart to use electricity?
You can follow the hourly prices of market electricity for example in Yritys Online. If you want to reduce your consumption impact, you should concentrate electricity consumption during hours when the hourly price of electricity is lower. Generally, electricity is cheapest at night and on weekends, but the variation is significant from day to day, and even on weekdays, there are often cheaper hours.
Market electricity prices affect the consumption impact in two ways. Firstly, whether your consumption impact is positive or negative is determined by electricity consumption during cheaper and more expensive hours. Secondly, the average price and the range of market electricity prices, together with your consumption, determine how close or far from zero your consumption impact is.
What happens if market electricity prices rise?
If market electricity prices rise, the consumption impact increases. If your consumption impact is negative, meaning it lowers the price, your consumption impact will become even more negative if market prices rise, which means you save more. Conversely, if your consumption impact is positive, meaning it raises the price, your consumption impact will become larger if market prices rise.
However, this impact is significantly smaller than with a market electricity contract, as part of the price is fixed in the Yritys Duo contract.
What happens if market electricity is really cheap?
During months with cheap market electricity, the consumption impact is always small, close to zero. Even then, it can be negative or positive, but not very large.
Example: If the average price of market electricity during the month is 4 cents and the hourly prices during the month generally vary between 3 and 5 cents, the consumption impact can be at most +/- 1 cent even if you consume electricity only during the cheapest or the most expensive hours. The reason for this is that the cheapest hours are only 1 cent cheaper than the average price during the month and the most expensive hours are only 1 cent more expensive than the average price.
The consumption impact refers to the days and the times of day when your company uses electricity most. As a rule, if your company mainly consumes electricity at the same time as other Finns, when the electricity exchange price is at its highest (often on weekday evenings), your price will increase. However, if you use electricity mainly during cheaper times (such as nights and weekends), your energy price will decrease.
The consumption impact is determined at the end of each month based on your hourly electricity consumption and the hourly prices of exchange-traded electricity.
The part of your company’s electricity consumption that takes place at times when the electricity exchange price is lower than the monthly average spot price will reduce the price of energy in your invoice. If your company consumes more electricity when electricity is expensive (often on weekday evenings), the consumption impact will increase the price of energy in your invoice.
If your company uses equal amounts of electricity when it is cheap and expensive, the consumption impact is 0 c/kWh, and you pay the basic energy price agreed in your contract for your electricity use.
As the consumption impact is determined monthly, any general increase in the prices of exchange-traded electricity will not affect your company’s electricity bill, because in the Yritys Duo agreement, the fixed price component does not change.
The consumption impact is calculated as follows:
The consumption for each hour in the calculation period, multiplied by the spot price for the hour, is summed. The result is divided by the total consumption in the calculation period, which results in an exchange price weighted by the customer’s consumption in the month of invoicing. The average spot price for the period is deducted from this.
The result describes the degree to which the customer’s consumption is allocated to inexpensive hours. If the figure is negative, the consumption impact decreases the customer’s electricity price, and if the figure is positive, the consumption impact increases the customer’s electricity price. However, the billing price for electricity cannot be negative.
The following examples describe how the consumption impact affects your company’s electricity bill. In the example, the price for the Fortum Yritys Duo contract is 13 c/kWh.
Consumption impact reducing the electricity bill:
If you time your electricity consumption to coincide with the hours with a price lower than the monthly average spot price, the consumption impact will reduce your electricity bills.
For example, if the consumption impact is -3 c/kWh:
The energy price billed in your electricity bill is calculated as follows: 13 c/kWh – 3 c/kWh = 10 c/kWh (+ basic fee).
The more you time your electricity consumption to coincide with the cheapest hours of the month, the more your company will benefit from the consumption impact, which in this case will reduce your electricity bill.
Consumption impact increasing the electricity bill:
If you time your electricity consumption to coincide with the hours with a price higher than the monthly average spot price, the consumption impact has a positive sign, which means that it will increase your electricity bills.
For example, if the consumption impact is +3 c/kWh:
The energy price billed on your electricity bill is calculated as follows: 13 c/kWh + 3 c/kWh = 16 c/kWh (+ basic fee).
If your company uses equal amounts of electricity when it is cheap and expensive, the consumption impact is 0 c/kWh, and you pay the basic energy price agreed in your contract for your electricity use.
The price of the Fortum Yritys Duo contract consists of a fixed portion of energy (c/kWh), a monthly basic fee (EUR/month), and a consumption impact (c/kWh), which is based on the price on the electricity exchange, and which the customer can influence by timing their consumption.
At the end of each month, the consumption impact is determined retroactively based on the customer’s hourly electricity consumption and the hourly prices of exchange-traded electricity.
The share of the customer’s electricity consumption that takes place in hours with a price lower than the monthly average spot price has a positive effect on the consumption impact, meaning that it reduces the price of energy. The consumption impact also works the other way round, that is, it can be negative from the customer’s perspective by raising the price of energy.
Compared to a traditional fixed-term contract, the Fortum Yritys Duo contract offers you the opportunity to reduce the price you pay.
In the Yritys Duo contract, the final monthly energy price is always composed of the fixed energy price +/- the consumption impact.
Timing consumption to cheaper hours means allocating electricity consumption to hours when the electricity spot price is lower than the monthly average price.
The price of exchange-traded electricity is determined on an hourly basis. When electricity use is high, that is, when demand for electricity is higher, the price is usually also higher. Historically, electricity is cheapest between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. By timing your electricity consumption to coincide with these cheapest hours, your company can influence the total amount of its electricity bill.
You can keep track of your consumption and the cheaper electricity hours by monitoring them in the Yritys Online service or on Fortum's website.
On average, electricity produced when the spot price is at its lowest comes from a higher proportion of fossil-free sources compared to when the spot price is higher. Timing consumption to align with these cheaper hours can therefore contribute to reduce emissions from produced electricity.
The consumption impact is determined at the end of each month based on your company's hourly electricity consumption and the hourly prices of market electricity.
Practically, this means multiplying your hourly electricity consumption (kWh) by the hourly market electricity prices (c/kWh). This shows what your price would have been if you had a Yritys Tunti market electricity contract. This total is then divided by your monthly electricity consumption (kWh) to get the average price you would have paid for your electricity with a market electricity contract (c/kWh). From this figure, the average market electricity price (c/kWh) for that month is subtracted, resulting in your consumption impact (c/kWh).
Your consumption impact is positive, meaning it increases the price, if the average hourly price of your electricity consumption calculated with market electricity prices is higher than the average market electricity price. Conversely, your consumption impact is negative, meaning it lowers the price, if the average hourly price of your electricity consumption calculated with market electricity prices is lower than the average market electricity price for the month.
