Fortum to host a hackathon on the customer solar panel purchasing process and customer experience

Fortum invites start-ups, software developers and service designers to apply to take part in the “Hack the Solar” hackathon on 21–23 October.

The event will bring together the brightest minds to improve the solar panel purchasing process, delivery and customer experience for home-owners. We are inviting teams of 2-3 people to join the challenge and create proofs-of-concept of digital services.

“In everything we do at Fortum, the customer is always in the centre, and in the Fortum strategy cooperation with start-ups has an increasingly important role in innovating both new technologies and business models. These are the reasons why we are opening our data to software developers and service designers in our #HackTheSolar hackathon,” says Timo Liiri, Fortum’s Head of Products and Delivery.

During the hackathon, participants will ideate and develop solutions for four areas:

  1. becoming familiar with solar
  2. from the installation of solar panels to a seamless service experience
  3. from solar panel product ownership to Fortum living service experience, and
  4. new digital solutions.

Fortum will provide the participants with real-time and historical data on solar energy. The winning team of the hackathon will receive a prize of 10,000 euros, and the best teams will have an opportunity to pilot their innovation with Fortum.

The application period for the hackathon is 5-25 September 2016. The #HackTheSolar hackathon is being arranged with Industryhack.
